Cavoodles are becoming the “it” dog in Australia. Their cuddly teddy bear coat, fun loving caring nature, combined with a low shedding coat, make them an ideal pet for families with children, mild allergy suffers and those who need the support from a pet.
Cavoodles are a designer hybrid of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, either toy or miniature. The Cavalier bringing it’s laid back nature, flopping ears, round faces, and the Poodle, it’s intelligence, loyalty and low shedding coat, and both breeds having a gentle nature, combines and shines through in the Cavoodle. They are now one of the most popular Oodle dog breeds in Australia!
Our F1B Cavoodles are Cavoodle x Poodle. This mix of breeds produce a teddy bear like Cavoodle, with a wavy to curly, low to non shedding coat. With a low shedding coat, the hair becomes tangled and trapped in the surrounding coat which can give the appearance that they shed only minimally or not at all. With this in mind, Cavoodles must be groomed regularly, or the coat becomes knotted or matted, causing pain to the dog. They will require weekly brushing as well as clipping every 6-8 weeks in the clip of your choice. The earlier you start the grooming process and get them use to being brushed, and their paws being handled will go a long way to them enjoying the grooming process.
Cavoodles are a small to medium sized dog, generally weighing between 5-12kg with a height between 25-35cms, depending on the parents. Their life expectancy is between 10-15 years. They are best suited for families with children, singles and seniors, apartments, houses with/without yards. Cavoodles thrive on human contact, and are not dogs to be left alone for long, or housed outside. Of course, encouraging and training the puppy to be left alone at a young age will help prevent separation anxiety. They are also vocal dogs, and great little watch dogs and can bark at strangers, but because of their friendly nature will most likely be giving the new person a lick not long after! Cavoodles do not need extensive exercise, but do benefit from a daily walk or structured outdoor or indoor playtime. Due to the Poodle intelligence, it’s also a great idea to mentally stimulate them by training them, and giving them activities that get them thinking or use their nose.
